It all started from a prayer...

 

A small group of people, concerned with the less-fortunate of Champaign-Urbana, came together and prayed about how to minister to the lost, the addicted and the afflicted.

 

Restoration Urban Ministries opened its doors on March 15, 1993 and started to hand out food.  What started as a small effort grew to giving out over 100 bags of food by the end of the first week.  So many times we take things for granted, not realizing that there are hungry people living right here in our community.

 

The next effort was to include clothing and shelter for those who were in need.  The first endeavor was to obtain a couple of houses to allow some men to seek shelter when they were homeless.  However, the needs were far greater than was anticipated.  So many were desperate; families, single parents, couples, and individuals, that Restoration knew it had to have more space.  We obtained a 22 unit motel on north Route 45, but it soon became clear that the need surpassed what we could provide at that time.  Too many were still homeless, too many were still hungry , too many still needed Jesus...

In late 1997, Restoration obtained facility at 1207 N. Mattis Avenue in Champaign.  It is a 74 unit motel, and we were able to keep 2 parent families in tact, help single parents, couples, and singles obtain housing, food, clothing, and most importantly...We still give them JESUS!
